Civic calendar | Agendas continue to focus on budgets (2024)

Editor’s note: The following is a list of the board, commission and council meetings that are scheduled in the coming week around Humboldt County.

Arcata City Council

When: Special meeting Wednesday at 5:15 p.m

Where: City Hall Council Chamber: 736 F St., Arcata

• The council will meet in closed session for labor negotiations with Arcata police and property negotiations for multiple parcels.

Arcata Fire District Board of Directors

When: Special meeting Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., regular meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Where: Arcata Station classroom: 631 Ninth St., Arcata.

• During the special meeting, the board will meet in closed session for property negotiations on the lease of the Arcata station.

• During the regular meeting, the board will consider adopting the fiscal year 2024-25 budget.

• The board will consider a “pass-through” payment of more than $4,000 for the fire chief for his work during protests at Cal Poly Humboldt.

Arcata Planning Commission

When: Second and fourth Tuesdays of every month at 5:30 p.m.

Where: City Hall Council Chamber: 736 F St, Arcata

• The Tuesday meeting is canceled.

Blue Lake City Council

When: Special meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Where: 111 Greenwood Road, Blue Lake.

• The council will hear a 2024-25 draft budget presentation.

Eureka City Council

When: Special meeting Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

Where: Eureka City Council chambers: 531 K St., Eureka

• The council will hold a special budget study session.

Fortuna Planning Commission

When: Second and fourth Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m.

Where: City Hall: 621 11th St., Fortuna

• The commission will consider a design review for the exterior of the Preston Centre.

Humboldt Bay Fire Joint Powers Authority

When: Second Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m.

Where: Humboldt Bay Fire Conference Room: 533 C St., Eureka

• Humboldt Bay Fire did not post an agenda as of Saturday morning for the Wednesday meeting. It is not canceled as the June 12 meeting was mentioned during the May meeting.

Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District

When: The second Thursday of the month at 6 p.m.

Where: Woodley Island Marina meeting room, Eureka

• The board will receive an update on the status of the offshore wind heavy lift terminal.

• The board will consider adopting a preliminary 2024-25 budget.

Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District

When: Second Thursday of each month at 9 a.m.

Where: 828 Seventh St., Eureka

• The district will continue water-resource planning for various projects in the county.

• The district will discuss the resignation of director Neal Latt.

• The district will receive a draft budget presentation.

Humboldt Community Services District

When: Second and fourth Tuesdays of every month at 5 p.m.

Where: 5055 Walnut Drive, Eureka

• The board will consider a climate resilience bond.

• The board will hear the first reading of the 2024-25 budget.

• The board will consider a resolution approving a workplace violence prevention plan.

Humboldt County Board of Supervisors

When: Every Tuesday except for the fifth Tuesday of a month at 9 a.m., special meeting Monday at 10 a.m.

Where: Supervisors chambers: 825 Fifth St., Eureka

• During the special meeting on Monday, the board will discuss Measure J funding recommendations and potentially use $750,000 as a budget reserve to stabilize the General Fund.

• Also during the Monday meeting, the board will receive a report from the travel and tourism ad hoc committee.

• At 1:30 p.m. Monday, the board will discuss the proposed county budget.

• During the regular meeting on Tuesday, the board will consider a $4.5 million professional services agreement with Changing
Tides Family Services to provide administrative and transitional support services related to Stage One Childcare Services.

• The board will consider reducing walk-in hours for the Planning and Building Department, which would limit access to Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• The boardwill consider a position modification and an exemption to the hiring freeze for the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office business office.

• The board will hold a public hearing to revoke permits for a former Redway area dispensary and cannabis distribution company. The company was evicted earlier this year, according to the supervisors’ staff report.

• The board will hear an annual report from the Humboldt-Del Norte Film Commission.

• The board will hear the code enforcement annual report.

Trinidad City Council

When: Second Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m.

Where: Trinidad Town Hall 409 Trinity St., Trinidad

• The council will hear a county report on prioritizing essential services in times of natural disasters.

• The council will hear a proposed water rate analysis.

• The council will discuss accepting the retirement of the city manager. There will also be a discussion on creating a task force to recruit a new city manager.

• The council will discuss a potential sales tax measure on the November ballot.
