If you own a food blog or website, chances are you’ve come to realize that having recipes alone may not work well for getting seen in search engines. That’s not to say that some of you haven’t ranked well with some of your recipes sans SEO content.

I am simply saying, that having SEO content within each recipe post or on your food blog in general, will help you rank a bit more in search engines. The good news is that you can do this yourself, using some of the tips I am featuring below.

If you’re not interested in doing these steps on your own, then you could go ahead and hire me to complete these steps for you on your food blog. I will share more about that service below.

This post is mostly about helping you learn how I craft good SEO content for food blogs or websites so that you (or someone on your team) can use this tutorial to show up better on the internet with all the heavy competition out there among recipe bloggers.

How to Craft Quality SEO Content for Food Blogs

Before you can create quality SEO content for your food blog or recipe, you must have created a recipe. I assume that you have a few recipes on your website or saved as drafts, if not, you can hire someone like my friend Mel to craft up some fabulous recipes for your food blog.

I use the Create plugin from Mediavine for my recipe cards. It looks something like this …

Then you fill in all of the details and add images, links, etc. Some of the users can attach their Amazon Associates links for recommended products. These are things that will help your audience make the recipe using tools or ingredients that you recommend.

While I do not post recipes much on this blog, I used to so I do have this plugin installed. Plus, having it installed will help me show you how to use simple Food Recipe Plugins more frequently.

As soon as you have inserted everything into your recipe card plugin, it’s time to work on the SEO text content for your recipe blog post.

Keyword and Answer the Public Research

The next step in creating the best SEO text content for food bloggers is to research what people are asking about this recipe, and look at keyword data. Afterall, you want your SEO content built with the intent to rank higher in user’s search results.

The best way to show up in the search results within the first couple of pages is to look at what people are searching for and asking for.

With this particular recipe, my 2 Ingredient Dog Treats (purchased from my friend Mel), I found the following data …

What is the public asking about 2 ingredient dog treats, or PB coconut dog treats, or dog treats in general (you can research each of these options to gain some traction for creating the text for your post).

Now that I know some of the keyword ideas, using my free Ubersuggest plan, it’s time to see what people are asking online about this topic.

So I type in DIY dog treats, evaluate what those questions are, and make some notes. Then I may go back to this page to type in another phrase, like PB dog treats, or coconut oil dog treats. These various phrases will still relate to the recipe, but provide a new round of what people as asking online about each of the specific ingredients in the recipe I am developing SEO text content.

This video goes into a visual of this process.

This helps you write a well-rounded, and helpful content style SEO text for each of the recipes you are working on. Again, you can hire me to do this, but I am trying to share how you can do it on your own.

This process to create the best SEO content for food blogs does take a lot of time. I have seen the more time invested, the better ranking you can get though.

Now that you have all of the data to write SEO content for your recipe, it’s time to put your creativity to work. I tend to just pull up a Word document and copy over the notes in there. This helps guide me as I develop a blog post for my client or my own website.

Once the content is complete, I will run it through Grammarly and sometimes Copyscape, just to make sure that what I crafted is well-written and passes Copyscape.

Create a New Blog Post

Now that you have your research done and notes taken or started drafting up some SEO text content for your recipe, it’s time to create a new blog post.

Click to add a new blog post inside of your self-hosted WordPress website, insert the recipe card, and then start copying over your SEO text content into the blog post above the recipe card.

Some bloggers may try to put it below the card, but I always do it before. Typically you will have a “jump to recipe” option on most recipe card plugins. This is just a matter of preference for you and what you expect your audience to cope better with.

As you know, or maybe you do not know, the average person visiting a food blog has no idea why there is so much content beyond the recipe card. It sometimes gets in their way of getting to the recipe, and they will click to go to a different site.

This may be why some bloggers opt to have their SEO text content below the recipe card or have the “jump to recipe” button at the top of their blog post. This helps the user experience be more positive. Since I am mostly using this as a reference for my tutorial, I will do my regular practice of having it before the recipe card.

My user experience prefers the recipe card to be below the SEO text content on a website, anyway.

Now that the blog post is complete, it’s ready to publish once you add your images for the featured image, a Pinterest-friendly image (if you do that), and any other steps you typically take to get a recipe live on your food blog.
